Each year after returning from the Labor Day companies across America join in celebrating National Payroll Week. This year’s festivities will be held on September 4-9th.
According to the America Payroll Association, National Payroll Week offers a chance for employers to honor not only their employees but also to recognize the hard work put in by their payroll staff. These unsung heroes act as a cornerstone to the US economy making sure employees are paid and withholding taxes are properly reported and deposited.
In fact, did you know that payroll professionals are responsible for collecting, reporting and depositing trillions in tax which accounts for roughly 67% of yearly revenue of the U.S. Treasury.
Interesting Facts about National Payroll Week:
The American Payroll Association founded National Payroll Week in 1996 to coincide with Labor Day. It’s a nationwide campaign by the APA to help workers understand more about their paychecks and payroll withholding. National Payroll Week is growing and just last year 98 municipalities issued proclamations regarding NPW across the US. There’s even a country song by Nashville’s Brandon Sandefur called “America Works.”
How you can participate:
- Celebrate NPW at your company and recognize the achievements of your payroll team.
- Lobby for a City or State Payroll Week by asking your mayor and/or governor to issue an official “National Payroll Week” proclamation.
- Volunteer to help educate teens about paychecks and how withholding works.
So a big shout out to all the payroll professionals this National Payroll Week. We salute you for everything you do especially for making sure we all get paid!
